Product description

The best Gunpowder Green Tea is Temple of Heaven Brand. It’s not only famous in China but also all over the world.Gunpowder Green Tea derives its name from the shape of its finished tea. The very dark green tea leaves have been rolled into little pellets which look like gunpowder to some connoisseurs.Meanwhile people call it Gunpowder Because: The tea is so well curled and tightened which looks like a small ball or pearl; when you put the tea into your hands, you feel it is heavy; when you pour boiling water into the tea, you can see all large tea leaves spreading out immediately just like explosion. Good Gunpowder Tea uses older tea leaves unlike other varieties of green tea. Tea steeped from Gunpowder has a dark golden color, roasted or toasted taste with a strong aftertaste lingering in the front palette, and a strong roasted or toasted aroma. You can also judge the quality of Gunpowder Green by its appearance. The well tightened and curled tea looks like tiny pearl with dark-green shining color.

  1. This Gunpowder is the only kind I buy. It’s definitely the best! Try it with a twist of lemon to get the full benefit of the catechins! […]

  2. Gun powder is called that because it looks like corned black powder for guns. Its a green tea with an interesting distinctive flavor. I find it best brewed strong; but this expands a lot so don’t fill the infuser or basket more than about 1/3 of the way. IMHO better than Twinings Green Gunpowder Tea, Loose Tea, 3.53-Ounce Tins (Pack of 6) at a better price. The down side is that you must repackage this into air tight container(s).

  3. I am a tea drinker. I love green tea. I used the twinnings green tea for a while. They use full leaves and they make a bit of a lighter tea. I do like that. This tea is cut up into smaller pieces, and is a darker nuttier brew. I wasn’t sure if I’d like that at first, but I have grown to really like it. I often mix it with a little chamomile or “Davidson’s Tea Bulk, Organic Spring Fruit & Flowers” which is great.Davidson’s Tea Bulk, Organic Spring Fruit & Flowers, 16-Ounce Bag]]

  4. This store has a really good price on green tea and the tea is good. It is small bullets that expand when you brew it, so it goes a long way.

  5. A very nice green tea, strong, a lot of flavor. In fact, you can brew it too strong. I find this brews best in a coffee maker. I use about 1.5 teaspoons to 3 cups of water in the 4-cup size Mr. Coffee maker. The filter helps clarify the brew (which is too strong if used in a french press).

  6. This is a very nice tea, especially for the price. It brews fairly strong for a green tea and has a rich flavor. Can infuse twice easily, three times if you don’t mind your third infusing a little lighter.

  7. Am a great tea drinker and have been drinking this tea for over 15 years. Drink mostly this tea daily. Need I say more.

  8. Thank you !!! +++++

  9. Great tea!

  10. I have had this tea before then could not find it .Looked it up on Amazon and they had it ordered the first box all most gone ordered two more this time it is great tea love it.

  11. I bought this from a local Asian grocery, I wanted to compare it to Prince of Peace green tea which I drink daily from a pitcher in my refrigerator. So I put 2 TBL through an infuser teapot I had, using mildly hot water and steeping for 3 minutes. The result was a mild smoky flavor, very different from my other green tea. I found it very drinkable and quenching. It was almost a very mild Lapsang Souchong flavor….nice. I put the leaves tea in a gallon resealable bag and will save it for special moments…when I can savor the ritual of making tea.

  12. This is a good deal for a not too terrible grade of tea. This tea does have a bit more particulate than I’d like, but you aren’t buying this brand of tea for looks, you are buying it for taste and aroma (both of which are spot on without being too strong or “fake”).

  13. Great price and fast shipping. This is a great product for tea lovers.

  14. Discovered quickly that the leaves expand (blow up- hence the gunpowder tag?) so 1 scoop actually would equal another tea’s 2 scoops!A little goes a long way with the flavor, so start with less than you normally might and seek out your taste level.

  15. Excellent tea; taste color and aroma.

  16. I have used this tea for years. I first found it in an Asian market in another state. I brew it just as I do coffee and pour in it an ice tea jug, refrigerate it and use stevia to sweeten it.

  17. We love this tea! It lasts a long time, and I will continue to buy it as needed.

  18. Arrived, met all expecations,GREAT, thank you, sincerely, Douglas

  19. Love this tea! I drink it every night after dinner.

  20. Delivered very quickly. OK tea for price point.

  21. Excellent quality for the price. There a big difference between Sencha or othe types of green tea from Japan and Chinese Special Gunpowder tea. These look like rolled and dried pellets but they are actually large leaves that will expand 10x when hot water is added. A little goes a long way. Don’t steep too long and use sparingly and you will not have bitter tasting tea.
